A Week In Sun Valley, Idaho

Each year for our anniversary, Jordan and I love to try to find a quaint mountain town that we can spend a few days in. Seeing snow and mountains refuels us both in a special way, since we rarely get to experience either here in Central Texas. Last year for our anniversary, I was a week away from giving birth to our son, so we skipped our trip! Meaning, I was extra excited for this year! Plus, it was our first trip away from our son, which was hard, but so, so good for us as we both wanted to commit to continuing to travel post having kids!

We had originally planned to go to Breckenridge, Colorado, but as we were researching, I made a last minute pivot to Sun Valley, Idaho and I am so glad I did! It was the perfect little mountain town, easy to get to, quiet, and didn’t feel touristy at all. Truly, a perfect place to rest, stare at the mountains, and eat a ton of wonderful food. Here are the in’s and out’s of our trip:

Getting there:

We flew into Hailey, Idaho after a layover in Denver. It was actually pretty easy to get to this small airport! We spent our first night in Hailey since our flight got in pretty late, but headed took an Uber to Ketchum early the next morning!

*note: there are not a lot of Ubers/Lyfts in the area. I feel lucky that we got a ride from the airport to our first hotel and from Hailey to Ketchum, but we did schedule one of our Uber drivers to take us back to the airport when we came home!

Where to stay:

We stayed in the town of Ketchum, Idaho (about 20 minutes from the airport) at Hotel Ketchum. This was a great spot! Walkable to so many restaurants, had a hot tub and had a wonderful fireplace that we read by in the Lobby almost every day! Plus, breakfast and coffee+tea were included!

What to do:

-Shopping in the downtown Ketchum area

-(free) bus to Sun Valley Resort area with shopping, dining, and an ice skating rink!

-Hiking - this town had more hiking trails open in the winter than most mountain towns we visit, which was a huge plus! We did the White Cloud Loop and the Prospector Loop Trail.

-Gondola ride up Bald Mountain and lunch at Roundhouse - gorgeous views of the mountain and the most yummy fondue! This was an experience & more than just a meal!

Where to eat:

-Ketchum Grille

-Enoteca

-Warfield Distillery and Brewery

-The Kneadery

-Sawtooth Brewery and Public House

-Java on Fourth

-Maude’s

-Happy Hour at Village Station
